i lOVE BLACK AND WHITE CHECKER DISHES, , YES I DO.! WANT TO DISPLAY THEM ,HOW ABOUT YOU???

i WAS SO EXCITED TO FIND THE CHECKERED DISHES AT MARSHALLS LAST WEEK. i HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR SOME FOR OVER A YEAR. i CAME HOME WITH THEM AND WONDERED" WHERE AM I GOING TO PUT THESE BABIES , SO I CAN LOOK AT THEM ALL THE TIME?''' i HAVE ALWAYS WISHED I HAD A OPEN SHELF OR A GLASS CABINET IN THE KITCHEN SO I COULD DISPLAY. WELL I DID NOT HAVE ONE UNTIL... I GRABBED THE DRILL, SOME PAINT, SOME VARNISH, A BRUSH . UNSCREWED THE CABINET DOORS, TOOK THEM OFF. RE ADJUSTED THE SHELVES SO I COULD DISPLAY DINNER PLATES. PAINTED THE INSIDE, RED( 5 COATS). VARNISHED. pUT ALL MY DISHES OUT AND PICKED WHICH ONES I WANTED TO DISPLAY. 2 HOURS LATER AND , "I LOVE IT'. i SUGGESTED TO MY HUBBY I NEED SOME LIGHTING IN THERE TOO., HINT, HINT. NOW WHEN WE EVER SELL THE HOUSE I CAN JUST PUT THE DOORS BACK ON AND THEY WILL NEVER KNOW.. oK NOT UNTIL THEY OPEN UP AND SEE THE RED. LOL

  2. Love it! I did the same with two of my cabs. Hubby thought I would regret it but I have enjoyed having the display more than having the storage. I love the plates! I bought some black and white damask plates at Marshall's which I can't wait to use. I have been on the lookout for harlequin plates for a while. Oh for the love of dishes and plates! :-)

  3. Oh you busy and creative girl you!
I am loving it! What color red is that? You are making me feel so slow and lazy. Oh well I am getting the Christmas put away, slowly. Then if I can get motivated I might get projects done like you.
Always love to see what you have done Mishelle!

  8. How incredibly creative - and brave! I love what you have done and the dishes are wonderful. Also, thank you for the great tip about the magnetic "things" you can use to cover unsightly "things"

  11. What a great idea. I took off the doors and wallpapered inside but we are going to paint our cabinets and I was thinking the wallpaper will have to go but I love the idea of painting it a different color. The dishes look great.

  13. I found your blog because I was googling black and white checkered dishes. I saw them at Mackenzie-Childs, but since I am not made of money, I don't own them yet. Is the brand you found at Marshalls Mackenzie-childs, or is it another brand?

I love your cabinet, by the way. I also collect Mary Engelbreit so I am a little jealous of the pieces that you have!

  14. Well, I'm just now finding you! I googled black and white checked dishes looking for just the ones you found at Marshalls. Unfortunately I see this post is dated January 09. If you should find a source for more of these, please let me know. Love your adorable kitchen. The black and white checked rooster has stolen my heart. Can you tell me if the plates and the rooster have a label or mark that would help me find some of these?
Thanks for your help. All the best ~ Sarah
